The Elan and Elite are the focus of this months article, as both models have been very nicely done by Sunstar and IXO. Sunstar has represented Lotus models rather well through the years, with models being produced of the Elise S1. GT1, and the Elan. Now, they have released an Elan S3 Coupe in 1:18 scale. The detail is very good, down to the wood grain simulation on the dash! In addition, this model, as in the convertible one released previously, contains working pop up headlamps. The color of this particular model is French Blue, and, as of this writing, was the only color available. There will be, however, Cirrus White and British Racing Green versions in the near future. Quite a bargain for around $20!
IXO is another diecast manufacturer that has recently gotten their feet wet with Lotus models. Their 1:43 scale line up contains a Talbot Sunbeam driven by one J. Todt ... anyone that follows F1 knows his involvement in Ferrari- but, hey, he had to start somewhere! In addition, IXO has released this beautiful gem, a 1:43 scale Lotus Elite ... this is the #43 car that was driven at Le Mans in 1960. The Model Number is LMC072, and can be purchased through various die cast companies on the internet. In addition, IXO has a website (www.IXOModels.com) that might provide a bit more information.
