Well, it's a new year, and what better way to start the year than with a few Lotus goodies to add to your collection ... and drain your checkbook at the same time! I thought I would focus on the formula one models for the next few newsletters, as that is what made Lotus what they are ... or sadly in the formula one circles, what they were.

Tamiya currently has two 1/20 scale models in production, and though we have covered them in an early newsletter, I thought it might he best to also cover them here. Those familiar with Tamiya know the detail that this Japanese company put into their models. In many cases, they work with the manufacturer's scale drawings to develop these models - certainly worth the money!

Tamiya model #2044 is the 1/20 scale of the famed Lotus 25 Coventry Climax. It is number 44 in the grand prix collection, and includes decals to make the car either the 1963 British Grand Prix, or the 1963 South Africa Grand Prix Winner.

Tamiya model #20038 is the 1/20 scale Lotus 107B Ford, and is number 38 in the grand prix collection. Decals are included for either Johnny Herbert, or Alex Zanardi as drivers. I have also seen various posts on Internet forums that recommend using this kit, along with decals from a company called Studio 27, to make a 1/20 Lotus 107C. I am planning on making this modified 107C, so I will keep you up to date on the progress!

AMT/ERTL has recently re-released a 1/25 scale model kit of the Lotus Indy Turbine Car..or Type 56. This kit also includes a tractor, called the race track work horse. The kit itself is pretty disappointing, as you will probably have to use filler in some spots, and the STP decals don't have the white edges around them, so they wouldn't show very well against the car's background. But, hey, if you are a Lotus collector like me, then it's a welcome addition! Various hobby companies carry this one, but beware, there is another version out there that contains an all white version, with no Lotus logo's (or STP for that matter) on the kit anywhere ... be sure to look at the images before you order!

Finally, in the 1/43 scale arena, Brumm, a diecast manufacturer from Italy, has released the Lotus 25 in various race guises. Brumm has been in the business for quite some time, and has made various models of Ferrari, Aston Martins, and other race cars, but I believe the Lotus is new territory for them. The quality is excellent, with great detail for the money. Pictured is the car from the 1963 Belgium Grand Prix, with Jim Clark as the driver. This model can also he found with Trevor Taylor as the driver, as well as the Jim Clark car from the 1963 Italian Grand Prix.

We will continue the F1 theme in next month's newsletter.. Happy Hunting!
