This month. I thought we would look at the Lotus Seven. It's quite a remarkable feat of Lotus engineering that this car has survived to this day, through various guises and ownership. It appears to he a pretty popular model in the diecast world as well, as quite a few different choices exist!
Vitesse (now part of Sunstar), seems to be at the front of the pack, with numerous versions of the seven being released in 1/43 scale. Vitesse #27551 is the Caterham Super 7 version, with great looking aluminum parts, and a front hood that comes off to boot! Certainly worth the $20 odd dollars that it is currently going for. Keep in mind that this particular model is limited to 1,320 pieces, and comes in either British racing green or red.
In addition to this great model, Vitesse has also released the Super 7 in a 3 series configuration. It's catalog # 27501. Not to be outdone, Vitesse also released a special Lotus Super 7 Emerson Fittipaldi Edition. #27500 - British Racing Green with yellow stripes (not pictured). Lets hope that Vitesse keeps on releasing more of these great Lotus models!
New Ray is another die cast manufacturer from China that has gotten it's feet wet with a few Lotus releases. A few years ago, they released a 1/32 scale Lotus Elise Series 1, and now they have released a 1/32 Lotus, well Caterham - I apologize for intertwining the two - Super Seven... this car was also known as 'The Prisoner" car - from the UK hit of the same name.
Here's a closer picture of it out of the box....
In addition, New Ray also released the Super Seven that was red, with a silver stripe on the hood.
In the plastic model realm. Hornby, of the UK, has released a 1/32 scale Caterham 7 in a unique Gulf livery of 2002. The Model # is K 2012A, and any hobby store that carries Scalextric should he able to get it for you. It retails for $9.99, and can also he found online at www.scalextric-usa.com. On the website, they also have a hobby shop locator that might he of some help as well....
Happy Hunting!
